Our Story
The inspiration for Choublak Wellness was born in Cap-Haïtien(Okap), Haiti. Our founder spent several years working with a medical nonprofit in Okap, building relationships and trust in the community. When the organization decided to cease its operations in Haiti, the impact was immediate and familiar to locals who’ve seen foreign organizations come and go with promises often unfulfilled, —a sudden vacuum, a disruption in care, and the dismantling of local progress occurred.
Rather than leave things unresolved, betraying the trust and relationships built, our founder gathered with local colleagues and employees to ask: What’s next? Together, they envisioned something lasting—something led by Haitians themselves. The answer was clear: starting small businesses rooted in community health for and by local community members.
First step: creating Choublak Wellness Center to provide community education and health care services, train local health care providers and a space for community gathering to birth Haitian led solutions through Okap Health Entrepreneurs.
Next step: Increase capacity, partner with local businesses and organizations, and provide start-up funds for Okap Health Entrepreneur applicants.
Our Mission
To provide not only economic stability for individuals but also health autonomy, allowing community members to apply their knowledge to improve their own lives and those around them. And if Choublak ever ceased to exist one day, the businesses rooted in health would remain.
Through education, entrepreneurship, and holistic care, Choublak Wellness is planting the seeds of sustainable health—from the community, for the community.
Our Vision
Choublak Wellness is founded on the belief that all individuals deserve quality sustainable healthcare and true health goes beyond the clinical visit. The purpose of Choublak Wellness is to ensure community members are empowered to imagine, create and maintain their vision of long-lasting health and wellness for themselves, their community and their country. We will do this through providing a safe space to educate, excite, and co-create the healthy communities we need to thrive and grow. More specifically, we will provide resources for local Haitian start-up companies rooted in the health of the community, conduct health professional education and training, provide one on one patient care and community wellness/chronic disease education.
Choublak Wellness envisions OKAP with all of its community members having the ability to not only access quality health care but have the ability to maintain a lifestyle of health promotion and disease prevention with ease in a way that feels authentic and is created by the OKAP community.
